Thieme Publishing Group
License Management ensures transparency and provides legal certainty
The Thieme Publishing Group (Stuttgart) is one of the largest German media company in the field of medical information. To bring transparency in the licensing situation of the strongly growing group, a SAM project was initiated. The aim was to ensure legal certainty and to meet the compliance requirements. Thanks to the new license management of brainwaregroup, now all IT key figures in terms of license management are precisely known. IT investments can thus be better estimated and thus restrict the risks involved in project decisions. This case study was developed in collaboration with Spider LCM GmbH (belonging to brainwaregroup) and Microsoft Software Asset Management (SAM).
Swisscom IT Services
License management at the highest level
The leading Swiss IT integrator and operator of complex IT systems has dealt with software license management for more than 10 years. Already back in 2001, a center of competence for license management was founded. It should ensure the compliance of the client software for the Swisscom group.
After the founding of Swisscom IT Services and the associated new orientation towards IT full outsourcing, the license management tool used so far did not fulfill the new requirements anymore. Therefore, Swisscom decided to use Spider Licence.
DHL Hub Leipzig
Pure logistics. Everything under control – thanks to Spider Contract
100,000 shipments per hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Covering an area of 5 soccer fields, the DHL hub Leipzig processes packages from more than 50 nightly, national and international flight movements.
In order for such a gigantic operation to run smoothly, a good cooperation with many partners and suppliers is necessary. Hundreds of contracts, framework agreements and detail receipts have to be kept under control. The way to success is to filter and organize the most important facts from the files.
AutoVision GmbH
Know, what is going on – AutoVision uses Spider IT management
The AutoVision GmbH, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen AG, offers commercial and technical service as well as personnel services on the market. This includes jobs in the production and assembly as well as the customer support.
"Because of the big number of projects which AutoVision executes both in-house and locally at the customer's site", Uwe Barz, Project Manager at AutoVision reports, "it is necessary to handle the used resources effectively". Apart from the employees, this also includes the used IT. "In order to keep the quick overview of the component usage in the corresponding project, we had more and more trouble to plan the usage times and the resulting cost settlement."
Cantonal Hospital St.Gallen
Improved overview thanks to a professional SAM
The IT department of the Cantonal Hospital St. Gallen serves as a Shared Service Center (SSC-IT) to ensure the IT support of the most diverse health organizations in the Canton of St. Gallen. In terms of organization and legislation, the department faced the challenge to add transparency to the IT licenses and manage them in a professional way. Thanks to the new and mostly automated license management tool of Spider, the Cantonal Hospital St. Gallen now ensures the compliance and takes advantage of saving potentials. This customer reference has been prepared in cooperation with our Gold Partners Comsoft direct AG and Microsoft Schweiz GmbH.
RUAG
RUAG Services has its software licenses fully under control
The international technology group RUAG now has a better overview over the software licenses in use within the group thanks to a professional Software Asset Management (SAM) solution. This customer reference was developed by our gold partner SoftwareONE and Microsoft Switzerland. The overall project lead regarding the license compliance and data integrity was held by SoftwareONE. As the underlying solution RUAG chose Columbus License Enterprise from Brainware. In addition to delivering the right solution, Brainware was also responsible for implementing and deploying the solution in the existing IT infrastructure of RUAG.
SUVA
Windows 7 – Quick and easy to use thanks to Columbus
Following the launch date of Microsoft Windows 7 in the late fall of 2009, the Suva corporation has decided, after comprehensive testing and requirement clarifi cations, to carry out the migration to Windows 7 in 2010. The Suva project was a special challenge, since the project was already started in the Beta phase of Windows 7. From the beginning, Columbus has been the ideal management tool for the implementation of the Windows 7 migration.
