Types of licence
With its range of licence models designed to suit different purposes, the brainwaregroup aims to help its customers find a solution that provides the best possible value for money. Choose the type that's right for you from the options below.
Perptetual License (PPL)
This licence model corresponds to the purchase of a right to use a licence for a certain product version for an unlimited period of time. By supplementing this with an annual maintenance and support contract, you can upgrade to new product versions and make use of free product support from our service desk throughout the contract period. Unless they are terminated (at least three months before expiration), maintenance contracts are automatically extended by one year.
Products purchased under PPL conditions are licensed directly to the end customer and are operated in the customer's own infrastructure or a dedicated cloud-based infrastructure for the customer. The price of the licence and of the first year of support and maintenance is paid when the contract is concluded.
Onpremise SAAS license (OSL)
This model provides an end customer with a right to use a licence for an limited period of time. New version downloads and product support from our service desk are included in the price during the contract period.
OSLs are subject to a minimum contract period of three years. After this, the contract is automatically extended by one year unless it is terminated in writing (at least three months before expiration). The agreed contract amount is paid annually in advance. When the contractual relationship is discontinued, the right to use the licence expires.
Products licensed under OSL conditions are licensed directly to the end customer and are operated in the customer's own infrastructure or a dedicated cloud-based infrastructure for the customer.
Hosted SAAS license (HSL)
This model provides special brainwaregroup contractual partners with licences for time-based use, in the same way as the OSL model. The contractual partner may surrender them to third parties for time-limited usage in the form of hosting. Although yearly subscriptions are normally applied in this case, shorter usage models are also available at a higher price – however, the supplier decides the applicable conditions of the offer.
The brainwaregroup contractual partner is the service provider for the end customer here.
With this model, the brainwaregroup contractual partner operates and maintains the installation – and the customer therefore does not have to pay for hardware/software and operating the solution.
With this type of licence, the support that is provided to and the contractual conditions that apply to the customer are subject to the offer conditions of the brainwaregroup contractual partner.
One-Use License (1UL)
This licence model makes it possible to use a product once for a certain purpose, which is defined in the licensing guidelines available for this product. This is ideal if you need to gather inventory data just once, for example, and do not wish to actually buy a product.
Product updates and the help desk are included in the price agreed for the usage period defined in the contract. Product installations and the associated databases must be removed after the defined usage period has expired.
Certain brainwaregroup services, such as Spider Software services, are provided within the scope of an annual subscription (“abonnement”). Unless they are terminated (at least three months before expiration), subscriptions of this type are automatically extended by one year. The agreed subscription amount is paid annually in advance. When the contractual relationship is discontinued, the right to use the contents expires.
